Series “Airport” Lesson 3 of 7 Level A2
Going through security
Pass airport security without stress: English words for the belt, the tray, liquids, the scanner and the metal detector, with audio.
After check-in, every passenger goes through a security check. It can feel a little stressful, but it is always the same: a queue, a belt, a scanner. This lesson gives you the words, so you know what to do.
Before the scanner
Follow the signs to security. Every passenger waits in the queue with their boarding pass and passport in their hand. Only people with a flight can go through.

Definition
(noun) a person who is traveling in a vehicle but is not driving it. This could be on a bus, train, airplane, or any type of transport. If you are sitting in a car but not the one behind the wheel, you are a passenger.
On the belt
Put your bag on the belt. Take a tray and put your jacket, your laptop and your phone in it. Liquids like water, shampoo or perfume must be in small bottles in a clear plastic bag. Empty your pockets: keys, coins and your phone go into the tray too.
Definition
(noun) a continuous band of material used for moving objects between two points. Often used in machines to transfer power or motion.
Definition
(noun) a shallow, flat dish that can hold items like papers, tools, or toys to keep them organized. You might use a tray to hold your crayons while you draw.
Definition
(noun) a portable computer that can be easily carried around and used in different locations
Definition
(noun) liquids are substances that flow and take the shape of their container. They can be poured, like water or juice. Unlike solids, they don't keep a fixed shape, and unlike gases, they have a definite volume.
Definition
(noun) small bags or spaces sewn into clothes to carry things. They are usually found in jackets, pants, and skirts, and can hold items like keys, money, or snacks.
The scanner
Your bag goes through the scanner, and you walk through the metal detector. Sometimes the officers look at your bag again with an X-ray, or they ask you to open it. Then you take your things from the tray and go to your gate.
Definition
(noun) a machine that checks people or objects for safety before they enter a place, like an airport. This scanner helps keep everyone safe by looking for things that shouldn't be there.
Definition
(noun) a tool used to check if someone is hiding metal items, like weapons, in their bag or on their body. Airports and security places use them to keep people safe.
Definition
(noun) the images that are created when you use X-ray light. These images help people understand what is happening inside an object or a person.
Practise
Listen to the words of this lesson and repeat them.
